Thinking of getting into the army but?

Hey, all I was thinking about getting into a deepkin army, the playstyle seems fun and I love the look of the heros and all the sea monsters eels turtles ext. Only thing is the infantry just dudes look really lame/kinda ugly to me. Is is possible to have great lists without too many of these guys mostly using the monsters heros and cavalry or are they super core to any strategy?
