Were the Agarthans evil 1000 years ago?

So I don’t think anyone would argue they are good in game. They are the shadowy cabal who want to wipe out everyone on the surface. But were they always that way or has defeat and time made them “twisted”?

Crash course on their history: We know they tried to wipe out the Nabateans 1000 years ago and the war nearly destroyed fodlan then sothis used all her power to heal fodlan and went into a deep sleep. The argarthan survivors used the opportunity to kill sothis and other Nabateans and use their bodies to make the hero’s relics and the ten elites.Then the war of hero’s starts and they lose a second time.

Were the evil for fighting the Nabateans? For Wanting to rule themselves and rebelling against the gods? Supposing they won that war, would fodlan be better off today? The agarthans are human and technologically advanced would they have ruled better? What would fodlan be like after 1000 years with the agarthans in charge? Frankly I want to play that version of three houses, call it a xenologue. I am picturing a sort of industrial magic world kinda like final fantasy.
