My Top 5 of the Holy Quintet!

Nobody asked but here is my top 5 of the main cast from least to most favorite!

This list will be mostly based on what we see in the original anime and not including what we learn in manga, audio dramas, etc.

5. Madoka

I feel bad for putting Madoka last but it's hard for me to put her any higher due to the fact that despite her being the main character and having plenty of screen time I still don't know much about her. Don't get me wrong, she has a very kind heart and is always willing to make a personal sacrifice to help others but aside from those qualities I can't think of anyway to describe her.

A big reason for this problem is just due to the fact she is not allowed to take any noticeable actions or make any decisions due to the plot since Homura was making sure that Madoka stayed out of everything to keep her safe. It makes sense and it kind of has to be that way for the story to work but it leaves me with not much to say but Madoka as a character sadly. :(

4. Homura

I was not expecting to put Homura this low on the list when making this, after all she is the driving force of the story and has plenty of screen time where she is being active. I think a big reason for her being so low is that her one motivation, saving Madoka, is all well in good but I just mentioned that Madoka is not very interesting to me so it might be that I can't get really invested in her story. I can see why she cares so much though, Homura had no friends and it seemed like her family was not very present if at all so she must have been very alone and Madoka was there for her.

I do feel for her struggle though and was hoping things would go right for her in the end so I'm not saying I didn't care at all. Plus it's so interesting seeing how she reacts to the cast and what they do on the rewatch knowing everything about her now.

3. Mami

If I was going by purely logic on why I like characters then Mami should not be this high on the list. She is not in the show very long and we have little insight about who she is outside of being a magical girl (at least in the show proper) but I just love her so much!
I like all her interactions with Madoka and Sayaka as she played the mentor, she came off as someone to respect yet was still very approachable.

I also liked her interactions with Homura, she played things cool as she was giving her the benefit of the doubt despite Homura's seemingly aggressive actions and even tried to end things peacefully by giving her a grief seed from the Witch she killed. But when her efforts seemed in vain she was ready to step up and fight her is needed.

When Madoka and Sayaka say that Mami was the ideal Magical Girl I believe them! :)

2. Kyoko

Kyoko was a character that took time to grow on me, when we first see her she came off as villainess and possibly insane, she attacked Sayaka simply because she wanted her off of her new hunting grounds and didn't care if people died from Familiars since she would get nothing from killing them.
But as we got to know her and found out her backstory I understood why she ended up so aggressive. However understanding why a character acts the way do does not help if they don't grow, that is why I was she invested in Kyoko's story as she DID grow and change due to her interactions with Sayaka.

Her relationship with Sayaka was the one I had the most investment in as they had a big impact on each other and I knew and understood both of them, when Kyoko made her final stand against Sayaka's witch form I was nearly in tears. My personal favorite moment of the show.

1. Sayaka

Sayaka was the only character who's ranking I knew before I made this list! From her outgoing personality to her knightly design, I love most everything about Sayaka. Speaking of her knight like design I love how it show's how she wants to be a hero by saving others from Witches or Familiars even if she get's nothing in return.

Alot of the reason I like Sayaka is the same reason I like Kyoko, their relationship is the best in the show imo and I could talk about them all day if I wanted too :)

What makes her when out over Kyoko though is for a couple reasons, for one Sayaka also had a great dynamic with Madoka and even Mami for the little we got of it while Kyoko really only had the time to to develope a relationship with Sayaka. The other reason Sayaka pulls ahead is just due to the fact we get to spend more time with her, we get to see her struggles and how she responds certain situations.

I could talk about why I like Sayaka forever but when it comes down too it, the reason we like things just comes down to a feeling in our gut and for me Sayaka is my number one fav! <3
