Is it a red flag when players want to be evil, provided everyone in the group is fine with what they're doing?

I've seen a lot of different views on this from "it's always fine" to "doing anything evil is a massive red flag and a comment about them as a person." Curious how it actually splits. And do you think it's a comment on them as a person?

Edit: For those that say it depends where do you draw the line? What evil acts are you ok with and which ones are a hard no?
