Dealing over 700 damage
Yesterday I was playing a campaign I’ve been apart of for a little over a year now, we were exploring a dungeon and the dm let us know ahead of time that it was especially difficult. So, I decided to use my good old 9th level spell slot to cast simulacrum via wish. Now, I play a Sorlock who focuses on blasting, and it has pretty good consistent dpr, and great nova damage potential. Without expending any spell resources, with simulacrum, I was doing 84 damage per turn on average (eldritch blast 4d10+40 * 2). Pretty good, but I didn’t realize how insane the burst damage could really get until we got to the end.
I’m aware that spending more than a turn prepping isn’t optimal, but this was really fun in the moment, and honestly not a bad use of time/resources if you know it’s the final fight before a rest.
Turn 1 me and simulacrum both used radiant soul and got hexblade’s curse off, other party members worked on the other mobs, boss targets another player. Turn 2 me and simulacrum used our bonus action for 7th spirit shroud and eldritch blast. (8d10+24d8+40+48+40, average of 280, dealt 301). This was already huge, next turn the trash mobs were cleared out and the boss hit me, I didn’t lose concentration and finished it next turn with a quickened eldritch blast, and an 8th level scorching ray (8d10+36d8+78d8+40+156+40, average of **757** and ended up dealing 742) boss just gets completely vaporized. Absolutely amazing moment
Again, 2 turns of prep isn’t super smart, but this was really satisfying and felt like it was worthy of being shared.
