Looking to make one myself on a metal lathe, any experiences?

I wanted to make a tetherspout myself on a metal lathe, because the ones you can buy online are either very expensive or low quality - and there is the problem of sizing and I don't wan't to buy multiple spouts just because the first one didn't fit - do you guys have any experiences with making tetherspouts and especially the retainer rings yourself on a lathe?
