Put a pair of balls on it, and kick them (Smurfs)

Was googling because of some ancient comedy bit about Smurfs being hermaphroditic, and the first result Google gave me for female smurfs was a clip of the 2017 Smurfs movie, where smurfette (wearing high heels during martial arts training) is supposed to kick an apple off a boy smurf's head, but instead, kicks his balls. Why do the creators of this movie feel the need to inform the largely child-age viewers that the boy Smurfs have balls hanging between their legs, and that it is socially acceptable to kick them for no reason? I like the idea of sticking a pair of balls on something quasi non human as a vulnerability (ballchinians, that ghost in the female Ghostbusters that gets shot in its ghost balls) and I'm ashamed of the thought of being excited by it. Do you have any other examples?
