Acting -- continuation

And the continuation (fictional):
The summer after graduation, I worked as a lifeguard at the town beach, which sat at the bottom of a long bluff. One scorching day, I was up in the lifeguard chair when I noticed Ms. Sullivan arrive with another woman. I thought about calling down to say hello, but they were both looking out at the water, so I let it go.
After my next break, I was heading back down the long staircase toward the beach just as Ms. Sullivan was coming up. I stopped to say hi — without realizing I was standing one step *above* her.
She shaded her eyes, looked up at me, and smirked.
“You’re awfully tall from this angle.”
Before I could respond, she made a playful uppercut swat with the back of her hand at my sack, which was pretty much on display in the regulation life-guard square trunks. Her hand connected perfectly.
“Uggg—” I choked out, folding forward instinctively.
She burst into laughter.
“Not so tall now,” Ms. Blake said, extremely pleased with herself.
The delayed wave of pain hit, and I had to crouch down on the step to keep my balance. I honestly wasn’t prepared for it to hurt that much.
“You…got me good,” I managed, wincing, looking up at her smile.
"You went down so easily," she laughed again, and then turned to continue up the stairs, leaving me there in pain.
“I think you’ve been waiting for that one!” I called after her, still crouched and concentrating on not falling over.
“No comment!” she sang back, climbing without looking back.
