Brother’s Dilemma: Chapter 5
**Brother’s Dilemma: Chapter 5**

I turned to see Lexi in the back seat. I assumed we were just dropping her off somewhere on the way there, but as we grew closer to the doctor’s office, I started to get more and more anxious. We had already passed the mall, and I was pretty sure none of her friends lived out this way, not to mention there was nothing else within walking distance of the medical facility we were headed to.
Finally I spoke up, and asked Lexi where she was headed to today. Her reply was, with you of course, silly. I nearly got whiplash my head turned so fast to look at mom. She looked back at me sheepishly and said she had been talking with dad about how this was delicate surgery and she was worried that she might not understand or remember everything the doctor was going to tell us. Lexi happened to be nearby and overheard the conversation, and approached me later on to tell me that she was concerned as well and would like to go with me to learn more about it. Mom then leaned in toward me and spoke more softly, saying your sister’s just worried about you, and if she’s more informed it will probably ease her mind. Not to mention it wouldn’t hurt for me to have more help taking care of you afterwards.
I turned back to Lexi who gave me that puppy dog look. Please big brother, I even brought a pad and paper to take notes. Plus I’ll bring you breakfast in bed everyday, and play your video games or watch shows with you throughout the day to help keep you company until you’re recovered. I still wasn’t keen on the idea, but we were practically there already, plus it would be nice not to be stuck in my room by myself all day, so I reluctantly agreed.
When we arrived at the doctor’s office I checked in with the receptionist, then took a seat across from my mom and Lexi, and prepared for the inevitable long wait. I glanced around the waiting room and like before we were pretty much the only ones there, except for a slightly overweight lady with some ugly boots on. So once again my attention was drawn to mom’s tan legs and bare feet in pumps. But this time she wasn’t my sole focus, since sitting right next to her was Lexi in jeans with her bare feet in a pair of flats.
Now the girls in my family have what I call busy feet, so even if they are at rest sitting down, their feet are usually quite active. It wasn’t long before mom, always the proper lady in public, sitting up straight crossed one leg over the other at the knees and started to sway her foot. Lexi on the other hand slouched down in her chair, stretching her legs out in my direction crossed at the ankles and slowly rolled her foot while checking messages on her phone. It wasn’t long before she started popping her flats on and off her foot giving me flashes of her sole. Shortly after, almost as if not to be outdone, mom starting dangling her pump off her bare toes. I was now torn between mom’s high arches and her dangling pump, and Lexis soft supple sole flashes. With all this action, it wasn’t long before…
No!!! Not again… damn it, stick to the main points and stop fixating on their feet… crap, there’s that sharp gut-wrenching pain again… you’re killing me smalls… jeez the last thing I need is to accidentally pop a stitch my first night because I can’t keep my thoughts from drifting to their feet…
