are there any differences to the actual gameplay between java and bedrock?

so i only play java and im just about to buy bedrock edition to buy a realm and play with a friend who is on ps5,and ik it has some visual and animation changes BUT are there any actual gameplay differences between the two aside from just being able to place blocks in front of you when bridging?
