[Sad Trope] Failed suicide attempt
Walter White - Breaking bad - In the first episode, after killing two people, Walter hears a bunch of sirens getting closer. He assumes these are police sirens and tries to shoot himself, but the gun's safety is on. The sirens are actually just firetrucks.
Rybak - The Ascent (Восхождение) - At the end of the movie after >!Rybak Is forced to betray his people, join the nazis, and take part in a public execution, he has a mental breakdown and tries to hang himself with his belt in an outhouse. But the belt is too small to fit around his head!<
Ove - A man called Ove (En man som heter Ove) - >! Throughout the entire movie Ove keeps trying and failing to kill himself. The first time he gets the noose around his neck but accidentally leaves his window open and someone passes by. Not wanting to be embarrassed he stops. The second time he attempts, the rope breaks and he falls to the ground. The third time he tries with a gun but a knock at the door scares him and he misses the shot. !< This all played for humor in the movie and it is surprisingly funny
Hari - Solaris (Солярис) - This is very difficult to explain if you haven't seen the movie but >! On the space station Solaris people from the residents pasts mysteriously appear. They are called “guests”. They aren't actually those people but they think they are. After Hari finds out she isn't the real Hari she attempts to kill herself by drinking liquid oxygen. She kind of succeeds but guests regenerate when injured, so she resurrects a few minutes later. !<
Reiner - Attack on Titan - After >! Committing several war crimes, Reiner can't handle the guilt anymore and tries to shoot himself. He gets distracted by a sound outside and his gun slips out of his mouth as he pulls the trigger!<
