After the self sacrifice
Essentially how a character reacts to losing a close friend because that friend sacrificed themselves for you.
1. Persona 3: It's a game about death, so self sacrifice should he expected but it's how the cast recovers and continues to keep living that are the emotional core of the game.
Akihiko and Ken watch Shinjiro die in front of them, as he sacrificed himself for Ken (who actually wanted to kill Shinjiro himself). Akihiko argues with Shiniro over his grave before breaking down crying. Then he decides that he'll keep going for Shinjiro. Ken is instead commently non-communicative and sits where Shinjiro died until Akihiko talks to him.
Mitsuru watches her father die and spends several days as a listless empty body until Yukari convinces her to keep going.
Junpei watches Chidori place her life force in him after he gets shot, killing her. He spends two weeks crying in his room, and only leaves after he convinces himself that Chidori didn't really care about him in spite of how much he loved her, since he cannot fathom that his life was worth her death. When he learns that she loved him he hreaks down crying again and admits that he'll need a lot of time to recover.
The Protagonist dies at the end of the game after he accidentally removed his own life force to stop the embodiment of death from killing every human, slowly killing him for two months without him even realising. In The Answer/Episode Aigis we see how that affects the rest of SEES, particularly Aigis who is left depressed and suicidal and Yukari who has tried to supress her own emotions but turns suicidally determined to somehow save the protag.
2. Paper Mario: The Origami King
'Bobby' the Bob-omb dies blowing up a boulder to save Olivia, and she's so horrified that she can't stop crying. Even after Bobby's ghost helps Mario cheer her up, that death sticks with her, and Kamek, Bowser Jr and even Olly, her creator/the main villain sacrifice themselves to help her. Olivia doesn't feel like she's worthy of all that. The deaths change Olivia from a cheery kid to a broken crying mess. Olivia's last act is to wish that everything created by Olly, including her, should cease to exist.
3. Person of Interest
In the Endgame three parter Carter sacrifices herself to stop the currupt police, sending John Reese into a revenge fuelled rampage and later a depressed grief, causing him to leave the team, and the country and try to drink himself to death. It's only after Harold Finch convinces him to keep going over multiple episodes that he recovers.
