Why is this terrain (Fallen Sigmar Statue) so ridiculously flimsy?

Painted this recently and hated every second of the assembly. The statue head is easy enough to put together, but I ended up pinning the platform in seven different points with steel wire to make it sturdy enough for play. The connection point with the head is really annoying, considering it's just grooves lining up under the planks instead of a defined plug. Same with the legs that could easily have been slotted into a connected rubble base instead of just dangling free.
