Trader Always Shows Up Tired

Is this a bug or just seriously bad luck? Every time I get a trader coming in, his bar is basically empty, causing him to pass out in the rain and weeds and thus renders him unable to trade. I just have to twiddle my thumbs and wait for his to wake up. I should at least get the option to kick him awake!
