What is Codsworths flamethrower for?

Codsworth is a pre war Mr.Handy robot. He is a robot servant that comes with rudimentary claw hand to grasp/carry things. A saw to cut hedges, wood maybe meat and vegetables for preparing dinner. And a flamethrower for...? What possible use does a prewar servant robot have for a flamethrower? I was thinking maybe to light cigarettes or cigars. Perhaps to get a fire going in the fireplace, but in each case a flamethrower seems like massive overkill. So what is the flamethrower for?
