I Don't See Color...well, kinda

Taking a knee, checking your privilege, mocking the notion of color-blindness – all of these things are part of an aggressive push to move the conversation about race in a particular direction. That direction is toward a greater awareness of color. It is a well-intentioned way of thinking that is steeped in naiveté. It fails to see that human nature is innately, and aggressively tribalistic. And so to whatever extent we increase our awareness of our differences, we will become divided by them. It is happening all around us.

If you find yourself becoming uncomfortable with pejorative terms like *white privilege*, or cynical accusations that imply that we as a culture, couldn’t care less about the lives of blacks, you are not alone.

If you still believe in the ethic of color-blindness – the idea that someone should never be judged by their skin tone – you are not alone.

You are not a racist, a bigot, or a wokeless fool. You are simply paying attention to the evidence of history. Compassionate unity is the only idea that has ever been successful in creating a better world. Unfortunately, that notion is too big of an idea to fit nicely into a meme, a hashtag, or a line consisting of no more than 140 characters.
