Help me decide my build!

Hello friends! I am starting my second ever campaign in about a week's time and I know what I want to play but I can't make up my mind how to build it.

I want to play a halfling defender/Tank who can take lots of hits and still dish out some damage. I have builds in mind either AG barbarian with 3 levels for champ fighter OR Cavalier Fighter with 3 levels for totem Barb. I was thinking of making finesse build for either, so I can have max AC possible and hope my DM gives me some ogre/giant gear at some point. If I go that route my starting stats would look something like this 13/15/15/8/12/8.

So what do you think of my build idea? Which combination would be better? Should I put more than 3 points in my second class? As I said this will only be my second ever campaign, I've never played a halfling, a fighter or a barbarian and only the first time I've ever made my character before day 1, so I defer to the experts.
