Space Station in the Nopada System

In the episode The Coliseum, the player has to beam over to the abandoned space station that has their ship ensnared to get it to release the ship. I've been playing STO for a few years now and have always wondered...why does the game have you take a full away team? They do literally nothing. Were there previous iterations of this episode where they had some function? Did you have to fight off Tal Shiar still on the station?
