Meal Ideas
Following the advice of this sub, I put thought into what type of food I most enjoy eating, and here is some of what I've come up with. I don't know if this is needed, but in case people want some inspiration, here it is. I eat vegan, so that's what is reflected in my ideas, but I honestly think this is just delicious no matter what.
Something you'll notice is that it's a lot of the same ingredients, but very different flavorings, which is what makes it taste varied. I try to have some basics at home to cook, but also have enough frozen pre-made things for when I want something easy. Some things on here are healthier than others.
**Breakfast:**
* *Israeli:* Pita and a mountain of hummus. Or, if I'm feeling extra, I'd cook my own chickpeas and add tahini and lemon juice to that, instead of the hummus.
* *British:* Nothing fancy, but just toast with some tinned baked beans is great.
* *Lazy weekend:* Cereal and oat milk
* *Fun weekend:* Pancakes
**Lunches / Dinners:**
* *Italian:*
* Pasta with a quick sauce of canned tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, dry oregano, salt. Topped with sautéed frozen veggies and either tofu or vegan sausage.
* Pizza. I make a vegan cashew cheese and I use that and canned tomatoes.
* *Eastern European / Yiddish:*
* I found frozen potato dumplings, which are delicious, and make a great meal on their own with some sauce.
* Kasha Varnishkes (pasta and buckwheat)
* *Middle Eastern:*
* Tofu with shawarma seasonings in a pita or on top of rice. I probably should add veggies, but often don't.
* Majadara with rice and lentils. I should make that more often. I forgot how much I like it.
* If I don't feel like cooking, I am ok with ordering falafel once a week, but I live in Israel, so falafel is relatively cheap and easy to find. I can get a very large and filling pita for 5-7 USD.
* *Various Asian-inspired foods:*
* I often do rice with tofu, frozen veggies, and sweet chili sauce or teriyaki sauce.
* Recently discovered how much I like rice noodles, so can do that instead of the rice.
* "General Tzo's" tofu (I know it's not actually Chinese, but it's delicious anyway). I don't deep fry the tofu, but it's still delicious with the sauce. I usually add some frozen broccoli or frozen green beans.
* Coconut curry with chickpeas and lots of fun veggies. I'll put that on top of rice.
* Frozen pre-made eggrolls if I'm feeling lazy
* *American:*
* Mac and cheese with a sauce from cornstarch, oat milk, nutritional yeast, and some spices.
* Chili made with lentils and/or black beans and veggies.
* Vegan burgers (Beyond Burgers as a rare treat, but other brands are ok and a lot more affordable)
* Chickpea "tuna" salad
* I can find vegan 'shnitzel' here with corn in the filling.
* When I was in the US, Smart dogs were delicious.
