Why RPA could revolutionize the way small companies work
When I read about RPA I often hear the argument that the main advantage is to automatize repetitive tasks. I think people miss one opportunity about RPA for small companies.
In small companies a lot of people are IT-illiterate, so to speak. They barely know how to use their software effectively. If you show them a couple of small tricks, then they become increasingly faster at their job. (depending on the software) But if they don't use that trick on a daily basis they forget about it. That happens in my company often.
So my idea would be to programme a RPA for simple tasks with just a couple of clicks. For example creating an pdf out of excel. Normally you wouldn't waste an RPA on such a task, but for someone not really proficient with software this could really help.
So instead of showing this person a trick. I would create an RPA and the person could name it any way he likes. So the next time he needs to do a certain tasks he just starts his create pdf RPA. Of course the person not knowing how to create an PDF could google it. But they are IT-illiterate, so they won't use google to solve a problem.
So it could be possible to create a big library with small tasks. An IT-guy would probably laugh at them, but for the normal user this could really accelerate his work. And the IT-guy wouldn't be bothered that much with mundane questions.
