Firespray is just plain better than the ST-70. Thoughts?
I was trying to build a list around the ST-70 Assault ship, and I'm convinced it would be better to use a Firespray in almost every situation. At a base price of 7 (just one more than the ST-70) the Firespray offers far superior maneuverability, a powerful rear arc, and better pilots. Oh, and more shields.
**Maneuverability**:
* The Firespray boasts one of the best dials in the game for a medium-base ship. It has a white 1-hard, a blue 1-soft, and ZERO red maneuvers (aside from its K-turn and Talon rolls)
* In comparison, the ST-70's dial sucks. Its only blue maneuvers are straight, so clearing stress is a real pain. Also, two of its hard-turn maneuvers are red. The only thing going for it is it's red stationary maneuver, but so many other ships have it nowadays that it's not even that special.
**Rear arc**:
* Not only does the Firespray have a rear arc, but it has three freaking attack. As if that wasn't enough to deter rear attacks, it also has bombs.
* The ST-70 has neither a rear arc nor bombs, so there is no good way to deter rear attacks, which is especially unfortunate considering the ship's limited mobility. If an Ace get's behind you, you're screwed. To mitigate this glaring weakness, you can add Hotshot blaster, but let's face it, it sucks. It's only two dice at range 1-2 and can only fire twice. Not to mention it costs 2 points and takes up an illicit slot. You could also consider Rigged Cargo Chute, but its expensive at 4 pts, and you must spend an action to drop it.
**Better Pilots**:
* With the Firespray, you have Boba Fett and Krassis Trelix, who have brutal pilot abilities that trigger easily and often. They are expensive at 10 and 8 pts but are well worth the price. For 7 pts, you have Emon Azzameen, a brutally effective bomber. You also have Kath Scarlet and Koshka Frost, who have weaker abilities, but the Firespray is such a good ship that it really doesn't matter.
* Meanwhile, the ST-70's pilots are disappointing. Not bad per se, just disappointing. The Mandalorian's ability is the biggest letdown of all because of its complex triggering requirements. There have to be at least TWO ships in the front arc at range 1-2. There are so many situations where this simply won't trigger, and I imagine there will be games where it never triggers. And even when it does trigger, it's not even game-changing. Q9-0's ability is decent, but you're flying a droid and losing out on the focus action. Finally, The Guild Bounty Hunter's ability is okay, but you have to spend a non-recurring illicit charge, making it not even worth it a lot of the time.
So yeah, the Firespray is better due to the above and other reasons (e.g. more shields). The only situation where the ST-70 *might* be better is in a support role due to its extra crew slot. However, plenty of scum ships already excel in supporting roles, such as the YT-1300, YV-666, and HWK.
