Does the Hound's Tooth the scale seem a tad off?

I'm looking at the model right now and if the scale is correct (1/270), it looks absurdly narrow. At this scale the only place I can see the Nashta pup would fit is on the back above the wings. But if the pup fit there, does he have to put on a space suit and go out into space to get into the cockpit?

Is the scale a little off or is it just that narrow?
