Why was Vito calling Adriana?

Everybody knows he was an ass muncher. Why was he calling Adriana while Christopher was away? We know Vito doesn't find women appealing since his hot goomar never got laid. Also aren't they related since Richie Aprile is an uncle to them both? Unless that's another loose use of the term cousin or uncle or whatever happened there.
