Beyond the Shoot Retrospective: Selling the ‘Pain’
When it comes to producing a good if not great ballbusting video, sometimes us male models, especially the ones with legendary pain tolerance, aren’t easily hurt by a kick or knee or squeeze.
I’ve been told countless times and seen hundreds of comments on videos over the years that I’ve been in that I must be wearing a cup or protection during a video because I didn’t react - or die lol. In fact, I’ve never once worn anything but my pants and underwear during a shoot. So - anything you’ve ever seen me in, has been just me. No cups or protection. Never.
If you watched some of my early VelvetKick videos, I didn’t sell or react much to anything (especially with Alexandra and then Molly. Both of them actually got mad at me during the shoot because I was making them look bad.
Alexandra (in the legendary shoot I did with VK which was my first ever shoot) https://www.reddit.com/r/BallBusting/s/HRfW2II4hQ was very mad that a) I didn’t get hard b) I didn’t react to her abuse. She actually cursed me out between takes and you could see her anger with me boiling over in one of my scenes when she’s standing close to me. After the shoot the reaction from Scott and the other males was holy shit how could I just take 30 minutes of ballbusting and not feel it? Truth was I was scared shitless to react. But also it didn’t hurt nearly as bad as it should have.
And in the popular shoot I did with Molly and the petite blond (https://www.reddit.com/r/BallBusting/s/LUC1b18r0i) Molly got so mad at me because I wasn’t reacting to her abuse that towards the end of the shoot and during a set up of the final scene - Molly told the blond to let me have it with no mercy. And you could see both of their intensity ratchet up. Especially Molly.
What I came to learn is that if you’re a female and a revered ballbuster like a Molly or Alexandra and someone is just standing there taking your abuse without reacting I could see why you’d be pissed. So, over the years I gradually learned how to make the female model look good even when their kicks weren’t causing damage.
By the fourth or fifth video I did for Velvetkick, Scott begged me to show more reaction on camera. On one hand it was great I was able to take countless abuse. On the other hand, feedback from those subscribers was that I wasn’t human or it must be fake because I wasn’t reacting. Which obviously is bad for business.
So for me, it became a bit of learning how to act mixed with a bit of genuine reaction. One thing Scott instilled was if you aren’t hurt by a kick then you definitely need to “sell” the kick a bit for the camera.
Of course if I ever felt the pain I reacted instantly. And genuinely. And for those who have seen my work over the years, you could definitely see when I was hurt in some of the videos I’ve done. But if I knew someone wasn’t powerful or didn’t have a lot of oomph behind their kick, I’d listen to the kick and if it sounded flush - I’d react accordingly. Or, sometimes after the third or fourth kick or knee I’d slump down or bend over and react.
The real fun was when i got to work with someone a few times and they knew what damage I could take. Then, well, there was no need to fake anything. Lily, Molly, Luna, Alexandra are all great examples where the second, third, fourth shoots and beyond with them, there was no acting needed. If they didn’t drop me with a kick it’s because they didn’t want to. But, we both knew eventually that knockdown blow was coming so it was more of a physical challenge for them and a mental challenge for me to not anticipate when that extra hard kick or knee or squeeze would be delivered.
When I worked with a pro, like an Erin Upton, Addie Juniper or Madame De la Cruel or Remi, those shoots were certainly the more fun ones as they could tell after the first few kicks I could take their abuse. And then it was no holding back. Those were the shoots that I definitely suffered the most damage.
But more times than not, my reactions were faked or exaggerated to make the model look good or make it seem like it hurt more than it did. Not an overreaction per se, just a reaction at all.
So, as a fan of ballbusting (which is why you’re here obviously) I’ll ask you all. What type of reactions do you prefer to see in videos you watch? Do you prefer the male to just take it and take it or do you want them practically in tears?
For the females out there - especially the content creators - what do you prefer? Do you prefer the male react a bit or just take your abuse without showing any reaction?
For those outside looking in - are there any questions you have about the industry, shooting videos, our experiences, etc.? A lot of you have reached out via DM to reminisce which is great and I’ll always answer honestly. But, for the rest of the lurkers out there please chime in as this is your forum more than it will ever be mine.
