Halo Effect and BDSM

The Halo effect is where people assume that excellence in one field equates to excellence in other unrelated fields: this is most commonly used example of this is that beautiful people are often assumed to be good people.

It’s something I’ve noticed in kink too: because kink is so tied to attraction, there’s often an assumption that more attractive partners are better submissives, better dominants.

Submissives do get this particularly hard because submissives who are not widely considered to be attractive may find a harder time finding a dominant partner, but then their inability to find a dominant partner is used as the basis for assumption that there must be something ‘wrong’ with them.

There’s also a bit of a beauty politics in the more Femdom side of D/s which leans very heavily into this effect, or seems to. Where beauty is associated with worth, and all dommes are beautiful and subs are generally not.

Iunno. Maybe these are just the rantings of an ugly bitter loser. I just feel a bit hopeless
