I'm just using this as a place to keep my writing. This is my blog now. I could post this to Tumblr but I run a joke blog there.

I grew up in a sort of Zionist Jewish Liberal (in the American and general sense) bubble. I had always vaguely known of left-wing criticism of Israel, but had always dismissed it as a small and insignificant minority, and certainly didn't think there were many anti-Zionist Jews still around.

Around the time I left the Jewish private school for high school and started questioning religion, I started looking into BDS-type things. I distinctly remember conceiving BDS as a slap on the wrist, meant to get Israel into line, though, and didn't question Israel's right to exist. It wasn't until the past maybe two years, since I've become a leftist rather than a liberal, that I've entertained views that could be considered anti-Zionist.

That said, it feels weird to me the spaces I'm in on Tumblr how Zionism is treated. Not bad, just weird. Unfamiliar. Hearing "just so you know, xyz is a Zionist. Don't engage with them" feels exactly like saying xyz is pro-capitalism.

I almost feel a twinge when I hear that. Like I'm turning instinctively to answer to a name I just stopped going by.
