On the theme of ‘tenuous alliances’

I’ve seen a lot of discussions in here over whether Vecna/Henry/One/Alex De Large controls the mindflayer or vice versa cabs I think we’re maybe missing a bit of a theme.

Throughout the last season, numerous characters engage in fraught alliances borne of necessity: Hopper allies with ‘Enzo’, they in turn ally with Yuri to escape Russia. Dr Owens allies with Dr Brenner, and El allies with the pair of them to take the fight to Vecna.

I can’t help but wonder if this is hinting at an alliance between the mindflayer and vecna, both powerful, but neither able to control the other. Vecna provides the knowledge of humans, and the ability to manipulate gates, while the mindflayer provides the army. I think either would turn on the other, given the chance, but they’re equally matched, for now.

Am I reading too much into this?
