What has Unionism done to make Britain better?

Or rather, to make staying in Britain a more appealing prospect than a more appealing prospect?

The big takeaway I got from the census is that more people are considering the future of Northern Ireland as a pragmatic rather than tribal affair- weighing up economies, social service provisions and what have you. The future of this place is going to depend on wobbly nationalists, lundies and other milquetoast dilettante types who don’t shag one flag enough for it to be their deciding issue.

Whenever I see a unionist defending staying in the UK, it tends to be a mixture of poohpooing the Republic or pandering to their ever shrinking base. They’re like racists always being the worst examples of their particular race. Whenever you look at the DUP policies, they seem intend on these parts not only being part of the UK, but also the worst part of it.

So here’s my question for any of our unionist contributors: what has unionism done to make staying in Britain more appealing?
